Hastings paused data centers for one year, until Aug. 17, 2027. The council passed the first reading on Aug. 3 and set the final vote for Aug. 17. The planning commission backed it 4-0. The city has no data center proposals.

Apple Valley paused new data center proposals for one year while the city studies how to plan for and regulate them.

⚖️ Court case · Inver Grove Heights

Developer QLevr sued Inver Grove Heights in July over the data center pause. The city said losing could cost $20 million or more. On Sept. 15 the council voted 3-1 to exempt the QLevr project, and QLevr agreed to drop the case without the city paying damages.

A data center owner, Eagan Capital, sued Eagan over its data center pause. The company says only the state utility commission can regulate power use. It asks for $50,000. Earlier, in May, the city denied the company a permit after cooling units were set up without permits. The city says it will defend the pause.

A judge ruled that Lakeville's environmental review of the 152-acre Olam site was legal. The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy had argued the city ignored signs of a possible data center.

Apple Valley's council said no to Oppidan's plan for five data center buildings (about 1 million square feet on 134 acres). It denied the site plan, the plat and the special use permit, as the planning commission had advised.

Eagan paused new data centers and crypto mining for one year. It covers sites within 500 feet of homes or that use more than 20 megawatts of power. It was the first data center pause in Minnesota. The vote was unanimous.

⚖️ Court case · Farmington

A residents' group and Castle Rock Township sued Farmington over the data center park. In November 2025 a judge refused to dismiss the case. On Sept. 16, 2026 the plaintiffs filed to dismiss both cases, according to the city. The dismissals still need a judge's final OK.
