Town council voted 6-0 to strike data centers as an allowed use in industrial zones. It does not cancel the special use permit the town gave Amazon in February 2023 for a data center on Blackwell Road.

The nonprofit Citizens for Fauquier County and town residents sued to overturn the town council's February 2023 special use permit for a 220,000-square-foot Amazon data center on Blackwell Road. A trial was held in March 2026 and final arguments were on June 15, 2026; no ruling had been reported.
