Local votes and rules
βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
Charlotte City Council unanimously paused new data center applications for 150 days, until Nov. 5, 2026 or until new rules pass. A consultant and city team will study effects and propose rules. Projects already approved or in permitting can continue.
πΊοΈ Zoning change
Charlotte City Council approved rezoning 156 acres off Moores Chapel Road for a Digital Realty data center campus of up to about 3 million square feet. Because it was approved first, the 2026 city pause does not apply to it.
