Village staff started a zoning change to make data centers a special use (needing board approval with conditions) in the I-1 and M-1 zones. Today data centers are allowed by right in the village's Data Center District, created in 2022, but no land is zoned that way.

📜 Data center rules · Aurora

City council passed strict data center rules. Lower noise limits. Builders must sign a deal with the city and hand in studies on noise, water use and power use, made by an outside engineer. They must add on-site renewable power or battery storage.
