Coweta County commissioners unanimously denied a request to change the zoning conditions on an industrial site off Walt Sanders Road so it could become the Project Oak data center. The land stays limited to office or warehouse use of up to 2.1 million square feet.
πΊοΈ Zoning change
Coweta County commissioners voted 3-2 to approve a rezoning for Project Sail, a nine-building data center campus on about 830 acres near Newnan off Welcome to Sargent Road and Wagers Mill Road. It could use up to 900 megawatts. The chairman's motion to deny failed. A residents' group, Citizens for Rural Coweta, said it is weighing legal action.
βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
Coweta County passed a 180-day pause on data centers in May 2025 to study how other counties handle them and write an ordinance. It ended November 3, 2025.
