Sabey data center campus (Centerpoint Road, San Marcos)

Sabey Data Centers is exploring a data center campus on land southwest of South Old Bastrop Highway and Centerpoint Road in San Marcos. The site is about 786 acres and would include a Pedernales Electric Cooperative substation. In June 2025 the City Council voted only to start talks; the mayor said it was not a final approval.

Hays County commissioners voted unanimously to set up a review board for projects that use a lot of water, like data centers. Until the end of 2026, the county will hold off on optional approvals for these projects, such as tax breaks and development deals. The county judge said it is not a ban.
