Microsoft keeps adding data center buildings in San Antonio's Westover Hills area. It filed plans for SAT16, a $215 million building on Westover Link, and is building a multi-building campus called SAT14 on Wiseman Boulevard. Microsoft has invested over $1.2 billion in local data centers since 2015.

San Antonio is drafting development code changes for data centers. The draft would keep data centers 500 feet from homes, schools, hospitals, nursing homes and day cares, allow them only in industrial and commercial areas, and ban them downtown. The mayor proposed noise limits under 50 dBA by day and 45 dBA at night. A council vote was planned for October 15, 2026.

Three San Antonio council members asked for a pause on new data centers. At an August 25, 2026 meeting, most of the council instead backed city staff's plan to change the development code to limit where and how data centers are built. State law requires a three-month process before a city can pause building permits.
