Five Dallas City Council members asked the city to start changing its development code for data centers. Today data centers count as 'communications exchange facilities' and are allowed without a public hearing in many non-residential and mixed-use areas. The change could create a separate 'data center' land use with its own rules. A council committee discussed it in early September 2026.
