Pacifico Energy wants to build a 710-megawatt gas power plant and a data center campus of about 490 megawatts on 2,842 acres in Cedar Creek. It pulled its tax break requests in August 2026, but the county says permits are still moving.

With data center deals under discussion, Bastrop County commissioners updated the county's tax break rules. New projects must invest at least $20 million (or $10 million to expand) and create at least 25 jobs, with a goal of 25% local hires, plus environmental review and benefit standards. A commissioner said tax breaks are the only tool the state gives counties to set conditions.
