Atlas Development plans seven data center buildings (about 2.4 million square feet) between Rome and Coosa. The state filing values it at about $4.7 billion and lists up to 5 million gallons of water a day at full build-out. The land needs rezoning to heavy industrial.
Where things stand: Planning commission recommended rezoning 4-3 in May 2025; the county commission vote was set for May 27, 2025. We did not find the result.

Floyd County approved new rules for future data centers outside Rome's city limits. They are allowed only in heavy industrial zones and must meet rules on noise, water and power use, safety and cleanup. Breaking the rules can mean fines of up to $1,000 a day.
