Floyd County approved new rules for future data centers outside Rome's city limits. They are allowed only in heavy industrial zones and must meet rules on noise, water and power use, safety and cleanup. Breaking the rules can mean fines of up to $1,000 a day.

Atlas Development ended its deal to buy the last 100 acres of Rome's Battey Business Complex, the former state hospital site, for a data center. The development authority had approved the deal in August 2025. Neighbors had opposed it and more than 2,200 people signed a petition.
