⏸️ Pause on new data centers
Americus City Council voted 5-1 for a 30-day pause on data centers so it can finish a data center ordinance. Liberty Data Centers plans a site in Frank Myers Industrial Park next to Georgia Southwestern State University. The city attorney warned against pausing for more than 180 days.
🤝 Agreement with the company
The local development authority sold a site in Frank Myers Industrial Park to Liberty Data Centers for $1 (fair market value $469,000). In return Liberty promised at least 150 full-time jobs averaging $80,000 a year, no private wells or sewer system, and limits on backup generator testing. If it breaks the deal it must pay back part or all of the land value.
