βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
Hobart passed a one-year pause on data center development, after a public hearing on July 7, 2026. The village will use the time to write data center rules into its zoning code. No developer had approached the village, but some residents had been approached.
π Other Β· Brown County
A Brown County committee voted not to move forward with a countywide data center pause. Members said the county does not control local zoning, so towns and villages must decide for themselves.
π Data center rules
Hobart has a draft ordinance that would replace its pause with permanent data center rules. Data centers would only be allowed in industrial districts with a special permit, far from homes, with strict night noise limits.
