Spokane County commissioners voted 5-0 to pause new data center permits in unincorporated areas for four months, until about Dec. 15, 2026. In July the board had split 3-2 against a longer nine-month pause, then changed course after strong public pushback. The county Planning Commission is writing zoning rules. The pause can be extended.
⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Spokane
Spokane City Council passed a one-year, citywide pause on building permits for new computer data centers (Ordinance C36887). The vote was 6-1. It took effect right away. The council asked the Plan Commission and a climate board to write a data center review and policy plan, and the mayor started a city work group on water, wastewater and noise.
