Federal Way City Council voted unanimously for a 12-month emergency pause on building, expanding or permitting data centers (Ordinance 26-1048). It covers sites over 1 megawatt or over 4,000 square feet. City code had no data center rules. The city cited limited well water from Lakehaven Water and Sewer District. A public hearing was set for Sept. 1, 2026.

Burien City Council passed a one-year emergency pause on applications to build or expand data centers (Ordinance 905). It covers facilities over 20 MVA of power (about 20 megawatts). Staff will study rules, fees and community benefits. A public hearing was held July 13, 2026.

⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Seattle

Seattle City Council voted unanimously to stop accepting or approving applications for new or bigger large data centers for one year (Ordinance 127447). It covers sites that need more than 20 MVA of power (about 20 megawatts). The mayor signed it on June 11. The city can renew it in six-month steps. A companion resolution asks city offices to study effects on power, water, bills, jobs and health.

Renton City Council voted unanimously to have city staff start work on a data center moratorium. No final moratorium vote was found.
