Digital Realty data center at 301 Virginia Street
Also called: 1930 3rd Ave
Digital Realty wants to tear down a downtown retail building and garage and build a six-story data center with offices and shops. The company says it would be a network hub, not an AI data center. Because its drawings were filed before the city's pause, it can still move forward.
Where things stand: Plans filed before Seattle's June 2026 pause, so the city says it is 'vested' under old rules. Work could start in 2027.
π Latest update (June 9, 2026): Seattle City Council passed a one-year pause on data centers over 20 MVA; this project's drawings were filed earlier, so it is vested.

Local votes and rules
βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
Seattle City Council voted unanimously to stop accepting or approving applications for new or bigger large data centers for one year (Ordinance 127447). It covers sites that need more than 20 MVA of power (about 20 megawatts). The mayor signed it on June 11. The city can renew it in six-month steps. A companion resolution asks city offices to study effects on power, water, bills, jobs and health.
