π« Ban Β· Athens
Athens City Council voted 3-2 for an ordinance that bans data centers in the city. A data center is defined as a building over 500 square feet used to house computer servers, so small server rooms at schools or offices are not affected. The fight began in April 2026, when a company called Data Factory proposed a 10-megawatt data center with bitcoin mining.

Henderson County commissioners passed a resolution asking for safeguards on data centers. It opposes data centers that use large amounts of water in areas short on water, unless they show a lasting supply. More than 200 people came, and speakers opposed a data center proposed in Trinidad near Cedar Creek Reservoir.

In Texas, cities decide inside city limits. Outside cities, the county has the say, but Texas counties have very few zoning powers.
