In 2023 Amazon Web Services filed to rezone nearly 2,000 acres in Spotsylvania for future data centers, which could mean more than 10 million square feet. Other reports name the campuses Summit Crossing, Carter's Store, Cosner and Orrock.

Supervisors voted 4-3 to require a special use permit for data centers, so they can no longer be built by right on industrial land. A similar motion had failed on a 3-3 tie in March 2025.
