Bitcoin miner MARA is buying a 1,200-acre site in Matagorda County that was planned for a fuels plant. It wants to build a large computing campus for AI tenants, and maybe bitcoin mining, using up to 2 gigawatts of power.
Where things stand: MARA agreed in July 2026 to buy the site; first 1 GW of grid power expected by Oct. 2027.
