A developer wanted to rezone 936 acres in northeast Lubbock for a giant data center with gas turbines and solar. Neighbors who already live near industry objected, and the planning board said no. The developer pulled the plan but said it might return.
Where things stand: The city planning board voted 4-3 against the rezoning in January 2026. The developer withdrew and said it may come back with a new plan.
