Nexus Data Centers is building a huge AI data center campus on farmland near Hubbard in Hill County. It plans its own gas power plant of about 613 megawatts. The company has talked about growing the site to several gigawatts later.

Data center developer RCM Hill LLC sued Hill County and three county officials in federal court, asking for $100 million and saying the county's data center pause broke state law. The company is planning 'Project Aquila,' a 1,235-megawatt data center on more than 800 acres. After the county canceled the pause, the company dropped the case on July 9, 2026.

Hill County commissioners voted 3-2 for a pause of up to one year on new data centers, large batteries and power plants in unincorporated areas. After a data center developer sued, commissioners voted unanimously on June 4, 2026 to cancel the pause.
