Fort Worth City Council approved zoning changes and a revised site plan for 187 acres of Black Mountain's planned $10 billion data center campus in southeast Fort Worth, near Lon Stephenson Road and Forest Hill Drive. The revised plan has taller buildings (up to 70 feet) but about half the floor space, with more than 300 feet between buildings and nearby homes. The vote was reported as 7-4.
βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
Fort Worth City Council voted unanimously to start the process for a 90-day pause on new data centers. The first public hearing is set for November 10, 2026, and the city lists February 16, 2027 as the likely date for the final vote. Existing sites and projects already in the pipeline would not be covered.
π Data center rules
Fort Worth City Council adopted new application requirements for data centers, including showing state power grid approval before applying for city permits, and new water and wastewater design rules. It also created a Data Center and Infrastructure Commission, with 11 voting members, to study power, water, land use and money effects. Its report is due November 3, 2026.
β Turned down
Fort Worth's Zoning Commission voted 7-4 to recommend against proposed data center zoning rules, saying it had too little time to review them. The rules would have kept data centers 250 feet from homes and only in industrial areas.
