Google plans an $832 million data center on an old factory site on Royal Road in Michigan City. The site had been empty for more than 15 years. Google says it will pay for the power and infrastructure the site needs.
Where things stand: City granted incentives in 2025. Google confirmed in April 2026 it is taking over the site.

The city council voted 8-1 to set aside (table) its proposed pause on new data centers for now. The council attorney said members would instead write a resolution for the planning department.
