Monroe County paused new data center applications outside city limits in December 2025 while it reviews possible limits. Monroe County had already turned down one large data center rezoning in August 2025, while the city of Forsyth later approved another.

Monroe County commissioners voted unanimously against rezoning about 900 acres of mostly wooded land near Bolingbroke for a planned $5.8 billion data center. The planning board had also refused to recommend it. Hundreds of residents came to oppose it.
