Pawhuska's Public Works Authority voted 3-2 to pause data centers through the end of 2026, and voted 5-0 not to send a power guarantee letter for a proposed data center across from Indian Camp Elementary. The city wants to know what its new substation can handle first.

Land trust Land Legacy sued the landowners, saying a 2013 conservation easement on about 270 of the 827 acres bans industrial use like a data center. A judge heard a motion to dismiss on June 24-25, 2026. As of September 2026 there was no ruling, and the project was on hold. A separate suit by the Protect Sand Springs Alliance was dismissed.

Sand Springs Planning Commission recommended the rezoning on January 27, 2026, with one no vote. On February 3, City Council voted 6-1 to rezone about 827 acres along Highway 97 from farm to light industrial use for the Project Spring data center, on land the city annexed from Osage County.
