Local votes and rules
π Data center rules
Ashland unanimously passed zoning rules for data centers. They are only allowed in the heavy industry (I-2) zone with a special permit and a public hearing. They must be 1,500 feet from homes, use closed-loop cooling, and pay for the water system upgrades they need.
βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
Ashland's Board of Commissioners passed a 180-day pause on new data center applications in February 2026. The city used the time to study data centers and write zoning rules, which it passed in July 2026.
