Local votes and rules
📜 Data center rules · Groton
The commission voted unanimously for the region's first data center zoning rules. Data centers can be no bigger than 12,500 square feet, so very large ones are not allowed. The rules took effect July 14, 2023.
🤝 Agreement with the company · Waterford
Waterford signed a host fee deal with NE Edge for a data center at the Millstone nuclear plant (payments instead of normal property taxes). On March 17, 2026, the First Selectman said the project had ended because the developer broke the deal's terms.
⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Groton
After a large data center plan by NE Edge, the commission voted unanimously for a one-year pause on data centers bigger than 5,000 square feet. It ended when the town adopted permanent rules in 2023.
