✅ Approved
The city planning commission approved a conditional use permit 6-1 for the large Grande Valley data center. Nine of ten speakers were against it.
✋ Turned down · Pinal County
County supervisors voted 4-1 to reject the rezoning for La Osa Energy Center near Eloy: 11 data center buildings and a 500-megawatt gas plant by Vermaland. They said no even after the developer cut the plan by 80% and offered water limits.
🤝 Agreement with the company
Landowners said the city's new data center permit rule cut their land value and asked for about $140 million under Prop 207. Instead of paying, the city council approved a binding waiver with limits on water, power, noise and site cleanup, plus a $5 million gift for city parks. Any data center still needs site plan review.
📌 Other · Pinal County
The county planning commission heard the request to rezone about 216 acres to industrial for the Project Midway data center campus and put off its vote to a later date, with questions such as who the end user is.
🗺️ Zoning change · Pinal County
County supervisors unanimously approved land-use plan changes for three big data center sites: La Osa near Eloy, Project Midway southwest of Casa Grande, and the W Holdings energy and tech campus south of Maricopa. These plan changes do not rezone the land; each site still needs a rezoning vote.
