TAC Data Centers gigawatt campus in eastern Wythe County
A Charlotte company plans a very large data center campus on about 1,000 acres in eastern Wythe County. It would need more than 1,000 megawatts of power. The first part could open in 2029. It would have backup diesel generators.
Where things stand: Announced June 2026. Wythe County has no zoning, so it needs only building permits and state permits.

Wythe County has no countywide zoning. Its first draft zoning ordinance would require a special use permit and a public hearing for data centers. In September 2026 the county was collecting public comments before formal hearings.
