SoftBank Stargate data center at former GM Lordstown plant
Also called: Stargate Lordstown, Foxconn Lordstown plant
SoftBank bought the old GM car plant in Lordstown and is building an AI data center on part of the site for the Stargate project with OpenAI and Oracle. Foxconn still makes data center equipment inside the plant. The companies said Lordstown and a Texas site together could grow to 1.5 gigawatts.
Where things stand: SoftBank broke ground in 2025 and said it would open in 2026.

Local votes and rules
⏸️ Pause on new data centers
Village council passed a 180-day pause (moratorium) on data center applications in January 2026, then extended it for another 180 days in mid-2026. A data center developer is challenging it at the Ohio Supreme Court. It is set to end in January 2027.
⚖️ Court case
Developer Bristolville 25 sued the village at the Ohio Supreme Court after the village would not review its plan for a data center campus on 133 acres near the old GM plant. Council passed a ban in November 2025, repealed it, and then passed a pause (moratorium) instead. The case is ongoing.
