Former Quindaro power plant data center (Project Yardbird)
Also called: Project Yardbird, Quindaro Power Station redevelopment
A Houston company wants to turn the closed Quindaro coal power plant in Kansas City, Kansas, into a data center with two buildings. It would use about 200 megawatts of power. The company would pay $13.6 million and help pay for cleaning up the old plant. The site could be ready to build around 2027.
Where things stand: Developer holds an option to buy the closed power plant site and is doing studies and cleanup planning. No final deal as of January 2026.
π Latest update (Jan 29, 2026): Developer reported still doing due diligence and environmental studies.
