Dubai-based DAMAC Digital plans an $860 million data center in an existing warehouse at Logistics Park Kansas City in Edgerton. The planning commission said no, but the city council overruled it in July 2026. It will have backup generators with underground fuel tanks.

The city sued two residents and their group to stop a citizen petition to block data centers. On Sept. 3, 2026 a judge threw out the case under the state law that protects public speech. A second lawsuit asks the court to put the petition on the ballot.

Residents filed a petition (208 valid signatures) for a city law blocking data centers. The council declined to adopt it on July 23, 2026. It is not yet clear if it will go to voters.
