Google is building a data center campus on about 550 acres of former farmland east of Monrovia. Plans show up to six buildings and a big new AES Indiana substation. Google worked through a shell company and officials signed secret deals (NDAs). Neighbors have sued over the rezoning.
Where things stand: Rezoned in 2025; site work started in late 2025. Lawsuits against the rezoning are still open.

- Jan 2025A rezoning request was filed for about 391 acres for an unnamed developer.
- Feb 2025Morgan County Commissioners voted 3-0 to rezone the first 391 acres to a planned unit development.
- March 2025Neighbors filed a lawsuit asking a court to review the rezoning.
- May 2025The county approved a 10-year, 50% property tax break.
- Oct 2025The county rezoned about 158 more acres.
- Nov 2025A second lawsuit was filed; construction work began.
