Meta's first Idaho data center, in Kuna south of Boise. It is now open. It was first planned at $800 million but was redesigned for AI and grew to $1.2 billion. Regulators expect it to be Idaho Power's largest single customer.

🔎 What we checked
- Oct 8, 2026: We checked where the site is. OpenStreetMap maps the Meta Kuna Data Center as a fenced campus of about 360 acres in southeast Kuna. We put the pin in the middle of it. The 2025 satellite picture shows large data center buildings there; in 2018 it was farm fields.
What happened so far
- Dec 2021Idaho Power asked state regulators to approve a special power contract for the data center (case IPC-E-21-42).
- 2022Meta broke ground in Kuna.
- May 11, 2023The Idaho Public Utilities Commission issued a final order in the power contract case.
- Jan 2026Meta said building outsides were finished and about 1,400 workers were on site.
- Sept 3, 2026Meta said the data center is open and fully running. It said it invested $1.2 billion.

🗺️ Zoning change
The city council voted 3-2, with the mayor breaking a tie, to change about 620 acres of farmland in southeast Kuna to industrial use for Diode Ventures' Gemstone Technology Park data center campus.
