A bitcoin mining company wanted to run a crypto mining data center on Cason Road near Blackshear. Neighbors worried about noise, power use, health and home values. The county said no twice in 2025, and the company has taken the fight to court.
Where things stand: Pierce County denied the permit in February 2025 and denied the company's appeal 4-0 in July 2025. The company took the case to Pierce County Superior Court in August 2025.

What happened so far
- Nov 2024The company applied for a conditional use permit for the bitcoin mining site.
- Feb 18, 2025Pierce County Commission voted unanimously to deny the permit after more than 150 people came, nearly all opposed.
- July 2025The county commission voted 4-0 to deny the company's appeal. The company said it had spent about $875,000 on the half-built site.
