Project Swan data center (west Lakeland)
Also called: Project Swan
Ryan Companies proposed up to 600,000 square feet of data center buildings on about 60 acres in west Lakeland. City staff say data centers are not an allowed use in the code, and the land would need annexation and rezoning first.
Where things stand: Early concept review only. The developer cancelled a June 2026 review meeting; Lakeland then moved to pause big data centers for a year.
π Latest update (June 3, 2026): The applicant cancelled its city development review meeting after getting city comments.

βΈοΈ Pause on new data centers
City commissioners voted 4-3 for a one-year pause on new data centers and other users of 50 megawatts or more. It took effect right away. It followed the Project Swan proposal. The three no votes wanted a pause that only covers big data centers.
