Microsoft Alviso data center campus (SJC02/SJC03)

Microsoft is building two data center buildings, about 397,000 square feet in all, in the Alviso area of north San Jose. The state paperwork allows up to 99 megawatts; news reports call it a 48-megawatt campus. Microsoft says it will be cooled with recycled water.
Where things stand: Microsoft broke ground June 10, 2026; building is expected to take about 18 months.

A council committee asked staff to add community benefits, like parks and job training, to the data center rules being written. The rules go to council in December 2026.
