Google is building an air-cooled data center campus in southeast Mesa, about 750,000 square feet across three phases. Mesa gave up to $16 million in tax breaks. The first building was due to open in 2025.
Where things stand: First building was due online in 2025; a second building (Redhawk) is being planned. Full build-out is set for 2030.

What happened so far
- July 1, 2019Mesa City Council approved a development deal for Google's $1 billion data center, with a $16 million property tax break over 25 years.
- 2023Google broke ground on the Mesa campus.

Local votes and rules

City planning board approved a smaller EdgeCore data center in Eastmark: two buildings (1.2 million square feet, down from 2.1 million). Generator tests only 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It still needs a city council vote.
๐ Data center rules
City council unanimously passed data center zoning rules, in effect Aug. 8, 2025. Data centers need council approval, may only go in industrial zones, must be 400 feet from homes and no taller than 60 feet, and must do an early review of power and water use.
