Local votes and rules
π Data center rules Β· North East Township
North East Township supervisors started writing a data center ordinance. The township lawyer said it would require a conditional use permit and allow data centers only in industrial zones. Officials noted the township's few industrial lots are too small for a big data center, but want rules in place anyway.
π Data center rules Β· Harborcreek Township
Harborcreek Township approved ordinances that allow data centers only in the Public University District around Penn State Behrend. The rules cap how much water and power a data center can use and require the developer to post a money bond.
π Data center rules Β· Erie County
Erie County proposed adding data center rules to its countywide land development ordinance (Ordinance 69 of 2026). County council later tabled the vote so planners could rework buffers and low-frequency noise rules.
