🗺️ Zoning change · Lyon County

Lyon County commissioners voted 3-1 (one commissioner stepped aside) to approve the planned unit development rezoning for the Monarch Data Center and its gas power plant near Yerington. Copia Power has one year to file the final plan and still needs state permits. The Walker River Paiute and Yerington Paiute tribes said they would fight the decision in court.

📜 Data center rules · Lyon County

Lyon County commissioners reviewed a first draft data center ordinance at a workshop and voted 5-0 to send it back to staff. Several said the 150-foot buffer from homes was far too small. The draft would ban water-using cooling (except treated wastewater), require a permit in industrial zones, and set noise limits. It would not apply to Monarch.

📜 Data center rules

Fernley's Planning Commission reviewed two early drafts of data center rules and approved neither. One would allow data centers on industrial land with a permit and a development agreement; the other would need a special overlay zone first. The draft keeps data centers at least 1,000 feet from homes. Staff hope to have an ordinance ready by the end of 2026.
