Raleigh paused approvals for large data centers for six months, by a 7-1 vote. The city will use the time to write rules on noise, vibration and water use. It can end sooner if new rules pass.

Cary unanimously paused data center applications for 18 months, the longest pause in the Triangle. Staff will study power, water, noise and site design and then write data center rules.

Holly Springs Town Council approved a one-year pause on data centers. Residents raised noise, health and property value worries. The town will study water, power, traffic and noise.

Apex Town Council unanimously approved a 12-month pause on data centers, data processing sites and crypto mining. It took effect April 28, 2026. The town will study zoning rules and how other places handle data centers.

Wendell paused data centers through December 31, 2026. The town acted ahead of time; no data center application was pending.
