Murray City Council unanimously passed zoning rules for data centers, based on a model from the Kentucky Resources Council. Data centers need a special permit that is reviewed every year, with yearly reports on power use. The rules cover fencing, noise, landscaping and utilities. They apply only inside city limits.

Calloway County Fiscal Court has a draft ordinance for a 12-month pause on building or expanding data centers outside city limits. The county says it has no rules yet on data center noise, water, power or setbacks. Data centers already running could keep running. Whether the final vote passed was not confirmed.
