Dubuque's council planned to vote September 8 on a six-month pause on data centers, with a full ordinance to follow by December. In a city survey, 76% of 3,777 people said they would not support a data center. No data center has applied inside the city.

Peosta's council approved a six-month pause on new data centers while it writes a zoning ordinance. Residents had asked for 12 months. The pause ends December 20 unless changed. A developer sent concept plans in August; the city says it will not act until rules are in place.

Supervisors voted 2-1 to pause data centers for 12 months. The first plan was 4 months; it was made longer at the meeting. County staff will write zoning rules and hold town halls. The county zoning board had asked for the pause. Later the county set aside the idea of a full ban and is writing an ordinance instead.
