La Conner Town Council put a pause of at least six months on data center permit applications in town. It uses Skagit County's definition of a data center. No applications had been filed. Staff will draft new land use rules.

Skagit County commissioners voted unanimously for a six-month pause on data center permit applications in unincorporated areas, citing farmland, floods and summer water shortages. It covers buildings over 2,000 square feet or 2 megawatts. All 11 residents who spoke at the July 14 hearing supported it. A 2026 planning proposal would make limits permanent.
