⏸️ Pause on new data centers · Unincorporated Blount County
Blount County's planning commission voted to recommend a one-year pause on AI data centers, crypto mines and blockchain computing centers, to give time to write zoning rules. Ideas discussed included a 5,000-foot buffer from homes. The County Commission makes the final decision; we did not find its vote. WVLT reported in July that Blount County put rules in place on June 18 (5,000-foot buffer, 60-decibel noise limit, proof the utility can serve the site), but the planning commission was still discussing those ideas on July 23, so it is unclear what has been adopted.

In Tennessee, cities and towns decide inside their limits. Outside them, the county decides.
