Former Vermont Yankee nuclear plant site (data center ruled out)
Also called: Vermont Yankee, PowerTransitions Vernon
PowerTransitions, a Texas company, leased the old Vermont Yankee nuclear plant site in Vernon. In June 2026 a data center was one of the ideas talked about. In September 2026 the company told residents it has no plan for a data center and wants to build a large battery site instead. Nothing has been filed with the state yet.
Where things stand: A data center was floated in June 2026. In September 2026 the company said it has no plan to build one; it now wants a big battery site.
🕒 Latest update (Sept 2026): At a Vernon community meeting, PowerTransitions said it has no plan to build a data center. It now proposes a battery storage site of 110 to 440 MW.
