Sugar Hill golf course data center idea (Portland)
Also called: The Four Winds of Lake Erie
Weed Inc. wants to turn the closed 44-acre Sugar Hill golf course on Route 5 into a data center campus. The Portland Town Board passed a resolution supporting the idea in general, but no plans have been filed. Many residents oppose it, and a petition against it got more than 3,500 signatures.
Where things stand: Town board backed the idea in March 2026, but no application has been filed. Data centers are not allowed under Portland's zoning now.
๐ Latest update (July 2026): Residents asked the board to cancel its resolution; no board member made a motion to do so.
