Data center idea at the former Remington Arms plant (Ilion)
Also called: Turin Hoefler Avenue, Site C
Cleanup papers for part of the old Remington gun factory in Ilion described a 250,000 sq ft data center, with a second one possible. Local officials now say that idea was only exploratory and the owner has moved on to other uses. More than 1,000 people signed a petition against a data center.
Where things stand: Cleanup filings described a data center, but the county development agency says the owner has since moved away from that plan.
π Latest update (April 24, 2026): Herkimer County IDA said the owner had explored a data center and a grid request but has since pivoted to offices, light industry and possibly housing.
