Kenwood Commons data center (Albany South End)

Guild Ventures wants to build a 250,000-square-foot data center on the empty 76-acre Kenwood site in Albany, along with about 300 homes. It says the data center would have 125 to 175 jobs. It asked the state grid operator for 180 megawatts for the whole site. No zoning request has been filed yet, and many residents oppose it.
Where things stand: No formal application yet. Developers asked the grid operator for 180 megawatts and hope to open in Dec. 2028.

City council voted 13-0 to support the state's one-year pause on data center construction. Council members say the city has no zoning rules for data centers yet and needs to write them. A data center is proposed at the Kenwood site.
