Amazon Web Services data center campus in Ridgeland (Costas property)

Amazon is building a second data center campus in Ridgeland, west of Tougaloo College. In 2026 it announced $11 billion more for this expansion. Amazon says the campus will use about 93 million gallons of groundwater a year, and its Madison County sites will have more than 800 diesel backup generators.

Ridgeland changed its zoning rules in April 2026 to better control data centers, including how far one can be from homes. Amazon's campus in Ridgeland was already being built. The exact numbers were not published in the news.

Ordinance 2023-09 added data centers, and the equipment around them like backup generators and transformers, as allowed uses in the Technical Industrial Park District. The goal was to promote building along Highland Colony Parkway. Vote was 6-0 with one absent.
